All suitably straightened and painted in the traditional "dove grey" colour, the cab panels were refitted with new rubbers and all new zinc plated bolts with spring washers. Hopefully the next disassembly is many years away, but involves less trouble than mine. New door tops were painted and fitted and new bailey channels for the sliding windows. The galvanised trim was in reasonable condition so was just cleaned rather than fully removed.
The firewall/door pillars had copped a few heavy blows, probably hitting trees, somewhere in the vehicle's life and getting the doors to fit properly was an almost impossible juggle of cab panel readjustments. In the end I sought the assistance of Les, my friendly panel beater. He improved things, but the less than ideal fit of the doors remains somewhat of a disappointment. Still, I'm told the doors on Series Land Rovers were rarely free of draughts and rarely entirely dry when driving in rain. Certainly my first one wasn't.
